Coping, Ranting
K-Pop and Grief
Content warning: this is a rambling downer. I mention job, family, and pet loss.
Ever since “discovering” k-pop in 2019, I’ve come up with a few sayings about my relationship with the genre. The first one was “Happy thoughts and k-pop”. I even put it on a shirt, mug, and whatever else Gooten let me print it on.
At the time, I worked a stressful job 9–5, the same as anyone. Though, in my work, it was either luxuriously boring or stay after hours stressful. As they say in advertising: it's either feast or famine. So during the days of lulls and finding ways to fill the hours before I can drive in traffic home, I’d watch way too many k-pop videos under my boss’ watch.
For the record. It’s not that I was lazy or didn’t do anything when we got a break in the tasks… I had built things for the company, continued learning skills, and even assisted in other departments. It was common for us to email high ups, managers, and other departments for work so we’d have decent billable hours to boast.
I was, in general, nervous during the famine times. But even a week before being let go with several coworkers, I said to my mother, “they’d NEVER fire me. I’m the only web person there. They would literally not know what to do”. Pro tip…
